I'm a huge fan of Brian Greene (The Fabric of the Cosmos (external link) ), who's books I highly recommend. He explores modern physics with humor, clarity and both his feet on the ground. (Apparently he too is subject to the effects of gravity.)

In the last century or so, humanity has begun to glimpse aspects of reality that are very difficult for us to reconcile with our daily existence, and some very bright minds are struggling to get a handle on it. (I posted a link a few weeks ago to a video of Neil deGrasse Tyson in which he suggests that, perhaps, the human brain simply isn't up to the task of understanding the universe. If that's the case, I guess we'll have to invent a brain that can.)

That video by Tyson was very interesting.

I'll research this to make sure I'm not way off base, but I wonder if the left brain analyzes and the right brain puts it all together in a way where intuitive understanding happens. I do seem to remember from my sister's research (she was a psychologist heavy into understanding the brain) that male brains tend to have more communication between the left and right brains where they can both work at the same time, but the female brain tends to use one or the other and go back and forth. There are various degrees of both, of course.
