Where do you base this idea from? Do you know anything about
how SETI operates? Do you know its history? Did you talk to any
SETI researchers and ask what they actually do and what they
actually think about life elsewhere in relation to their work?
Rather than hope or assume aliens will come visit us, SETI
researchers are basing their plans on the somewhat better odds
that we might be able to detect a galactic society's signals,
either sent at us or from various forms of electromagnetic
leakage that we create as well.
The odds are slim and it may not pan out, but they are making
the effort to search using the tools of science and in a galaxy
10 billion years old and 100,000 light years across with 400
billion stars, the fact that nothing definite has been found in
just 50 years of mostly sporadic searches is not surprising.
Unlike a religion, not only do SETI researchers have a tangible
objective, they are also willing to change their plans and minds
in light of new evidence, something not often seen with a religion
but very often seen with science.
It's not easy doing that kind of science when you can't go out
and look for the subject matter directly, but don't mistake the
fact they have to search remotely for something non-scientific.
