There is a fascinating answer.
The way I understand the answer is that if two space ships travelled in opposite directions at more than half the speed of light, then the light from one would never reach the other.

One question that has had me puzzling for a while is: Does a photon accelerate to the constant speed, or to put it another way, how does a photon attain its speed?
