How about the fact that the Moon and Saturn were in a close conjunction on the
day of Clarke's passing:

The symbolic signifigance? In the novel version of 2001: A Space Odyssey, the Moon is
where the first Monolith (TMA-1) was found (in crater Tycho) and the signal it sent was
aimed at the second Monolith (TMA-2) placed on Iapetus, a moon of Saturn.

Cue Twilight Zone music....
