Your comments are right on target. Only us pampered moderns can afford to waste time mooning over fidelity, romance and loooove.
Marriage has always been about who gets the farm, no man has wanted someone else's DNA inheriting all he's worked and fought for. This is why women's fidelity has always been so much more important than men's , and why female freedom has been so restricted. They are property, for the simple reason that we can always determine who the mother is, knowing the father requires elaborate security arrangements to eliminate all ambiguity.

Sure, it's a total anachronism in today's day and age, but most morality and tradition is based on money, no matter how sanctimoniously we pretend it doesn't. Biology and culture drives it all, which is the point I've been trying to make with all my snarky little posts. It's always been more about real estate than about romance. And if you don't believe that, you've never known anyone who's been in divorce court.
