If someone hears a confession of infidelity, they have two acceptable responses. Either leave the adulterer altogether, or forgive the adulterer and forget about it. What normally happens is that the marriage stays together but the episode is brought up over and over again as a weapon, whenever the aggrieved party feels the need for revenge.
