women and men.

If you are realistic you look at who or what makes you happy most of the time. In other words, do the good times out weigh the bad.

My Alice has made me happy by being who she is and by being my best friend. She pretty much takes my side against all comers. Not that she agrees with me, she often votes differently and her tastes in certain things (music, literature, etc.) is vastly different. She is C&W and I am classical. She is crime novels and I am scifi. I am a neat freak and she is helter skelter and messy, (I have unconditionally surrendered to her in this area). Mutual respect is also very important. In our relationship I am the smart one and she is the wise one. Above all she is my soul mate and I doubt I could live long without her and she knows it.

I have never made her unhappy by becoming involved in troublesome affairs and if I have ever been "unfaithful" it was nothing that caused her any pain. There has never been the kind of jealousy between us that caused her to agonize over what I was doing when I was away on business trips or out with my friends for a few drinks. I always come home to her and absolutely nothing comes home with me.

Not that there weren't some tricky times in the salad days but the good times far outweighed the bad and we are as comfortable together as old shoes at this point in our lives. I also have no doubt whatever that she feels the same way and would tell anyone that in spite of wanting to kill me occasionally she has no regrets that she has spent her life with me.
