Hello Dan:

With all the excitement of the last week I hadn't the chance to send you a message. I am sorry about not doing so before now. At least touching base with you was one of my highest priorities. Odd how life interferes with your plans when you're not looking.

I will be gone for an unknown time Dan, and I miss you and your wit, wisdom and knowledge. I have accepted that I may be gone for quite some time. That is unavoidable, but necessary.

There is much I would like to say to you, and by extension those who gathered around the small corner of the net we called Cydonuts.

I will keep it to this, the American public now knows the reality of the world we live in. I believe that you already knew. And you know what it requires to keep freedom safe. You spent your time in uniform. The message I left for Justin on the community page at Habitable Zone had words in it that you know by instinct.

When I was asked to bring my experience and skill to those who need to learn it I did so with no reluctance, no fear. I could not do otherwise.

The current struggle we have begun will consume much, but we need to constantly watch that it does not consume the very things we defend.

There have been times the last month that the thought keeping me warm at night were of all of you. Knowing the BBS we all visited were filled with lively debate on the situation at hand. As long as that debate continues, we have won. When it stops, the whole of humanity loses.

I ask but one thing of you Dan, stand watch for those who would curtail our freedoms out of rage, fear and hatred. A difficult task I know, but I can think of no better man for the job. Each individual citizen must keep watch. The old saw that "Freedom requires eternal vigilance" is a truth. We were not vigilant enough and paid a horrible price for it.

Now we must once more fight a fight that should have been dealt with when the costs were much smaller.

FYI I will be able to get my E-Mail on an irregular basis for the time being, feel free to write anytime you wish, the reply may be delayed, but it will come. And thank you for the messages you sent while I was out of pocket, they meant a lot.
