I gathered that the thoughts on the mine field were reminisciences of something that happened in Vietnam. I could be wrong.I will admit to being a bit confused myself. The age of 52 seems extreme for a shooter mission but I understand that Slick had unusual talents.
I suppose there are some casualties that we do not hear about.
