Power supplies are one of a number of computer components you don't want to scrimp on.

Estimate your power needs, and go large. A power supply will consume pretty much only the power required by the system, so that for a 450 W system, a 500 W supply won't eat that more power than a 800 W one under normal operation, and a lot of margin is a good thing in power supplies. Especially if you like to add boards and peripherals along the way.
