Sure, no problem, it was posturing within posturing, aka irony.
I think your characterization of Web 2.0 pukes is pretty accurate. So it always is with Today's Big Thing. But Web 2.0, to the extent that it can be defined as a set of technologies, is maturing, and this phase is often characterized by packaging up previously ad-hoc improvs, creating delivery systems, frameworks, IDEs and RAD, etc.
I've gone through the evolution, and consider myself the hottest shit around when it comes to JavaScript and AJAX and all the tech associated with Web 2.0. I've always rolled my own. And I'm now seeing the benefits of using OTS and open source stuff anyway, just to save time, if nothing else. Additional benefits are things like OpenLaszlo's UI system, where I get drag-n-drop and moveable/resizable windows and all that tedious-to-code stuff all wrapped up with a bow.
Popping of the veins is for people who fall in love with dogma. I've seen technology dogma come and go, and when something like Web 2.0 becomes dogma, I know it's time to look for The Next Big Thing.
