In reality TB has expressed over time and quite eloquently his dedication to the conservative party line on substantive matters. He seamlessly followed the party line on reasons for attacking Iraq, and steadfastly refuses to believe the American public was mislead.
A litmus test for me is Bill Clinton v. George W. TB believed Bill Clinton should have been impeached and convicted for lying about his blow job. (So did I.)
However, TB does not believe GWB lied about far, far more substantive matters even in the face of proof, and therefore doesn't believe he should be impeached. He refuses to read the accounts of people who were on the scene which contradict the party line as spoken by Bush and Cheney.
What fits for one should be an easy test for the other. Any other conclusion simply means rationality is not operative but ideology.
