Well, that was an easy fix.

Bought my wife a new wireless "G" router. I thought the wireless network adapter I had on my computer might not be compatible so I also got a new adapter for me. My old adapter worked with the new router but I kept the new adapter anyway.

The old adapter never had very good "signal", it continuously fluctuated between good, poor and none. Never got much more than 24mps. I hung it on a USB cable to try to find a better "spot" but it didn't seem to make much difference. Yesterday I couldn't stand it anymore, I was having a hard time getting connected to anything and I notice the old adapter was hot.

New adapter:
Signal strength- always "very good" and 54mps constant.

Life is good.
