The good news is that the US could be the solution.

It seems to me that the basic problems the US has are of our own making. The good news is if that is true then the solutions are of our own making, also. And would help the rest of the world.

Energy. Rather than berate the ROW for not supplying us with unlimited energy at prices we want to pay with all the problems that creates, why not limit ourselves to consuming the energy we produce? Nuclear power would become most attractive, for instance, and other sources would be developed, pronto. Become self-sufficient. Would it require massive adjustments? Of course. However, I believe if such a program were proposed national pride could carry the day.

Drugs, narco-states. The drug producing countries depend upon the demand inside the US to support them. Not entirely, but without the US market Columbia, Mexico, and Afghanistan, to name a few, would have serious problems with over-production. If the US took care of the problem at home the problem would be solved for many nations. How can we blame a poor Afghani farmer for growing a cash crop if folks in the US are buying? And still claim to be proponents of "free enterprise"?)

Immigration. If the economic incentives weren't there, they wouldn't come. And would go home. Make it impossible for undocumented people to work and that problem would take care of itself, peacefully and without confrontations. (The problem is, of course, that we want them here working cheaply but don't want an immigration problem. As far as them doing work "Americans" won't do, that's ridiculous. Illegal people off the books will always work for less. Pay a decent wage, and pay the price for the product, and you'll find all manner of "Americans" doing the work.)

The good news is that the US could be the solution to many if not all of it's problems, rather than running around the world trying to persuade people to have our, rather than their own, best interests at heart.
