I understand and have been through it before.

But then, several surprizes around the corner!
Jupiter looked totally different with my glasses on than without them(that's when I realized I'd have to wear them all the time; a first death of some kind).
Where we'd be observing, last february, I'd once arrived much earlier by daylight only to be welcomed by millions of insects (well, that wasn't exactly at the same place, only 100m further).
The Moon is huge at the horizon, not because it is so, but because of a trick in the brain (illusion).
M31 is just a smudge to the eyes, even through a telescope, and yet it is a beautiful spiral galaxy (I can't take long enough exposed pictures on a stable and precise enough tripod to make it appear, but that's my dream).
The HST pictures are awe-inspiring, provide a lot of info...but are not what we can see nor even what we could see were we closer to those objects. Perhaps it doesn't matter.

What I see isn't what there is, unfortunately and it isn't just because of the imperfections of my own eyes or some illusions, but also because of my culture (what I expect and therefore deform with my interpretations) and then, well, after the contemplation and the questions, came the doubts but that's perhaps why I like to do it.
